Mute Strumming Technique - Howie Day MP3 example included...
Howie day uses a mute strumming technique in a lot of his songs that i can't seem to do. I've tried lifting my fingers slightly to mute a few strings, but the open ones ring out loud. I watch his videos and he never mutes all the strings with his fretting hand.
Check out this quick mp3 clip of sorry so sorry... listen for the mute strums. how does he do that? I can make a video clip of this as well, showing that his fretting hand never flinches during the muted strums.. how does he do this??

yeah dude thats all right hand palm mutes....you hear how there is a click after....howie is a very rhythmic player, he almost hits the string like a bass player will slap. the click is the sound of the strings hitting the frets. Basically strum a chord then to mute, slap your knuckles directly down on the strings and remove them quicky. its hard to explain. i use the back side of my hand, cuse i get a better response from the strings. you can try your palm too. If u need more help, just post again... but its definatly all strumming hand, not fretting
