Practice with a purpose
Whats up guys, I have been playing for about a yeah and ahalf and I think I have hit a wall in my practicing. It seems when I play I always just run through songs I already know, or maybe try and learn a new song, but I never seem to get that much better. I am looking for some tips on how to better myself as a guitarist, through a better practice regiment. I dont know if anyone else has ever been where I am but I would really, really appreciate some advise, thanks fellas.

whenver that happens to me I just find a riff in Dm, loop it, and solo over it for hours having fun... reminding me why I started to play guitar in the first place. Also, sometimes just playing with no particular plan can lead to something that had never occured to you, the other day I was jamming and threw in some harmonics and now I am addicted.
The layla riff is by far one of my favorite chord progressions to solo over, especially because it is in my favorite key (Dm).

I've had this problem before cause I had played the same things over and over again and I was really bored. If that ever happens ask all your friends for bands they like, download some songs, if you like them try and learn their songs, by ear if you can. I am getting better everyday at learning by ear. If not go out and buy a guitar skill builder book on something like jazz that you know will challenge you. I would do that cause I wicked want to learn to play Jazz guitar, but I am broke ^^. Thats my advice.
