Easy songs to teach my mom

Unread post by jsgksu » Thu May 15, 2003 2:29 pm

Ok, so Im trying to teach my mom how to play guitar. I taught her some basic chords and she can play them allright but she thinks she would learn much easier if she was playing some songs she knew and liked that had a basic 3/4 chord progression. She listens to 70's music and current stuff like Counting Crows, Goo Goo Dolls, and other popular newer music . She doesnt have a big chord vocabulary at all but could anyone maybe name some songs that fit the category Im looking for - oldies (70's) and popular current music with very easy basic chords. Thanks is advance.

Thanks everyone, except for Jason, you can burn in hell, j/k kinda. Im not really teaching her so much as showing her stuff and then walking away and letting her learn it herself, I get frustrated when I try to sit there and teach the whole time.

Neil Young - Heart of Gold (Intro is Em and D, Verse is Em, C, D, G) one of the easiest tunes and sounds cool too...also, you can play a very basic sounding Hotel California with this chord progression:
Bm, F#, A, E, G, D, Em, F#.

Chords Used.

Bm = 224432
f# = 244322
A = x02220
D = xx0232
G = 320003
Em = 022000

try those on and tell us how she makes out!

wish you were here by pink floyd. easiest and probably the sweetest intro ever. after playing it for the first time, everyone feels like a bad ass. good feeling. i agree that sitting there the whole time and trying to teach is hard. i have an ex lady friend who calls me the guitar nazi just because i give her a tip here and there. anyways man, good luck with it and all. spreadin the music around is always nice.

I actually have showed her wish you were here and horse with no name, but Ill try the other ones too, thanks. And I know I probably asked for it by bringing my mom into the subject but c'mon guys, lets leave her out of this, not something that needs to be joked about. Thanks.
