guitarist tips: how to do volume swells (videos)

i've been getting a lot of inquiries lately on those volume swells i used in my recording and how to do them, so i slapped together 3 videos to illustrate exactly how simple these things are to do and how effective they are

The Setup: Here i just show you my setup and my guitar, everything you need to make volume swells happen. ( NOTE: volume swells are much more effective with a sustain or delay pedal )

The Swells: Here i illustrate how to do a swell. Easy, pluck the note....raise the volume with the same hand. Doesn't get any easier

hmm, this could be fun...time to bust out the electric rig and play around...if only my pedalboard wasn't broken I'd have some real crazy fun...

Dude! That's really sweet. Makes me wish I had an electric to mess around with now. I guess it makes sense why they put the volume knob right there, now.

wow, that's cool, I'd tried it kinda before just messing around but never with the delay and it sounds sweet...now I just need to get my pedalboard up...mess around with some chorus...add a bit of biting distortion...and oh yes...the wah pedal...I'm going to wreck that...

I have so much stuff I want to get for electric...jeez...I bought the thing last december for the hey of it...an SRV strat...I got a great deal on it so I just bought it and a crate gfx-20 to have some fun with...didn't play it much, then I started playing it a bit more, still swearing by the acoustic though, but then I decided I liked it a bit so I bought a blues driver...then I bought a distortion pedal for some punk stuff I had to do with a friend...not my cup of tea but oh well...then the chorus pedal to knock some clapton tones out...then a new tube amp to make a great guitar sound better...then the pedalboard...then the Line 6 DL-4...then the wah, and now I want a octave pedal, a volume pedal, another DL-4, a standard boss delay, compressoin sustainer, maybe a flanger...it just never ends...there's so much stuff with electric to just make it cool...oye vay...

I'm getting some new delay gear this Christmas as well

The BOSS DD-5 digital delay pedal....and

Line 6's delay modeler (the one that Tim uses) with 14 second loop with complete bypass!!!

I can't wait to do solo stuff theN!

the delay pedal is a little overrated...it's hard to get it sounding good because the volume never mixes well with what you're playing...the delay modeler is the Line 6 DL-4...if you have any questions, let me know.

that's why you buy the optional tempo pedal so everything mixes perfectly

PLUS the dd-5 has an effect level knob so you can set how loud the delay will be.

personally i think this thing rocks

so does the DL-4
