Mostly self-tought, but the basics were through lessons (with my dad, no less.)

Self-taught for about six years. Then I took some lessons from a jazz guitarist for a little over a year; he taught me theory and such, which I'm beyond grateful for.

Then I moved, kept studying all those "wastes of time" myself, which I think everyone should do.

About nine years in all.

I also had seven or eight years of piano lessons, a couple years of drumming, and a couple on baritone sax. That all helped, especially with reading music.

my mom taught me a few chords and 3 songs that she remembered (blowing in the wind, tambourine man, and you've got to hide your love away). She would give me the starting point, and let me go. Other than the first week, I have taught myself.

I'm self taught in almost every aspect. But, every Thursday at school my World Cultures teacher holds a guitar and strings club. (He's an amazing guitarist and violinist) I go and jam for the most part. He shows us whatever we want to learn. If I want to see some scales or learn a song, he'll help me. Not really a teacher, but more of a mentor I guess
