So I decided I should try to pick this song up, and I learned it last night. Great song, really fun to play, and it's not at all hard to do without your thumbs. I know fire can play this one, anyone else out there either have it or trying to figure it out? Once I learn the lyrics, I'll put up a cover...

Yeah Im in the process of learning it, I use my thumb on second and fourth chord in the verse but other than that I dont. Its not extremely hard, not that I can play it through perfect but I know if I sat down and really tried Id get it in a few days. I just cant get the chord transitions down fast enough. How do you play with your strumming hand, I smack the low E with my thumb then use my pointer, middle, and ring in a quik plucking motion down the strings. I think it works pretty good.

jsgksu, that's exactly how i use my right hand, although sometimes i just pluck with my thumb and then use the base of my palm to get the slapping sound.
i actually bar the 2nd and 4th chords, and it makes it really easy:
this is the actual tab:
what i do then is after that first chord up on the neck, i slap a bar down on the 3rd fret and leave it there through the next two chords. once the left hand moves up the neck again i slap a bar down on the 8th fret for that quickly played 4th chord. the ring and pinky fingers are then left free to quickly move to their spots on the 10th fret. hopefully that makes sense. if not, i can try to explain it differently, but this is really an easy way to play it as each chord formation moves really easily into the next. i'd wager that even if you had mayer's thumbs that this way is easier to play it.

The song isn't that hard really...thats why I posted it as the hardest "looking" song...I have to redo mine then...I did that one the night after learning it and it shows...still cool, but it was weak (esp. vocals - I didn't know what they were lol)...anywho, I can't wait to hear your covers guys...Tico, it ought'a be fun listening to you singing Mayer

Yeah, I agree fire, I thought it was going to be a whole lot harder than it was for me. Really, the tricky part is the right hand, if anything, and i've been doing this kind of thing for forever in terms of the picking technique.
