I also agree with slowing things down. When I was in band and playing wind instruments, we practiced mostly at a slower tempo. Also, we did this thing called bopping.. where instead of playing the note to it's full value, everything was played as an 8th note. Hit then release.. move to the next note. That helped in not only memorization of what you needed to play next, but also in playing together as a group. How well will bopping translate to guitar? Haven't tried it yet, so I'm not sure. Usually, when I'm trying to learn something new, I break it down, take things slow, and not worry about getting the rythm until I know the chord changes.

Take a break! Just a day or two. I work four 10hr days a week (Fri-Mon) so I don't get time to play much those days but by the time my 3 day weekend comes around I'm all over my guitar like soft butter on warm bread. Also it gives my fingers time to relax and my mind time to think of what I want to practice/accomplish next.

I do customer service for CSX Intermodal. I'm the weekend guy, sometimes we are so slow that I can actually bring my electric to work and play (not plugged in of course). 8)
