1600..... hmmm.... you might find a used one for about that. You might look at the SE series. They're much cheaper, and I've heard some good things about them. Or you just might want to save up a little longer if you've got your heart set on a PRS. I paid about 2200 for mine (I think....) and I honeslty don't regret it. I'd imagine you could get one for less if you really want to do some hardcore searching combined with some hard core bargaining!
Les Paul's are awesome too. They play totally diferently than a PRS, so make sure you're down with the way they feel before you lay down the cash. I've found that people either really love a les paul, or really don't. Personally, I think they're great. But to each his own.
Yeah, those Dragons are spendy, but I wouldn't even think of playing one.. they're just the PRS limited edition guitars. They look awesome in person though.
Good luck. Let me know if you have any other questions.

incubus look at Godins!!!! theyre incredibly priced and you can get a killer guitar and have enough leftover for a great amp!!
isaac got his custom Sdxt for $400 and it had upgraded Seymour Duncan humbuckers - and SD's are top of the line pickups!! (Mine has stock Seymour Duncans, but my Godin is higher end than his... mine has a custom humbucker made for my particular model.)
i cannot stress how good these guitars are. i searched 6 months for an electric guitar, and the Godin was it. theres not one ive liked better.

a friend of mine builds Breedlove guitars. If your looking for an acoustic those guys are amazing.

For $1600 I'd look for a very nice used 1957 Historic Reissue Les Paul Goldtop. You can find them for about that on ebay and the LP Forum from time to time. Check out this place:

for more info. A used '57 historic will give you better construction and a custom shop guitar for a great price. I'd always go with a LP over a PRS, but that's just my ear and personal preference. Both are fine guitars.
