Is my guitar good enough to put pickups in?

Unread post by mehudson » Tue Mar 16, 2004 6:55 pm

I have been playing a Seagull S6 Cedar since about Christmas time, and I am thinking about getting pickups for it. Is the guitar quality enough to be worth having them installed?

I have an s6 cedar anniversary edition (more or less the same guitar)...I've been contemplating this as well. My answer: Depends on the pickup. I wouldnt put something too expensive into this guitar. If you just want to be amplified, I can understand that, but I'd just go with a cheaper pickup. (maybe even soundhole style, but they kinda sound like shit.)

Personally, I'm just waiting till I get a new guitar. In my opinion, its not worth the $100 for a good pickup, and another 40 to put it in. Thats half the price of the guitar, more or less.

that was my reasoning, i ended up just getting a soundhole... it definitely takes away from the true acoustic sound of the guitar but that wasnt really a huge concern for me.... i just wanted to be able to plug it into a PA for open mics or for making recordings without drunks yelling in the background

If the guitar is only worth appx. 300 - 400 , i wouldn't spend 150 on a pickup. Just doesnt make too much sense when you can get a take for about 500 thats much nicer and aco/elec ... your call though.

peace
