harmonica key question????

Unread post by blaze » Fri Feb 20, 2004 12:22 am

Ok I dont really get harmonica keys in differant tunnings. say you in open d tuning but your playing a tune using the key of c pentatonic blues scale.

what key of harmonica do you use?

In standerd tuning playing a tune on E pentatonic blues.

which key of harmonica wouls you use?

does the scale your playing in matter or is it the chords used in that scale??

I understand that if you play a song in the key of c useing major chords then its a c harmonica. but im confussed when it doesnt involve normal chords just random notes.

Im confussed if someone can help me out that would be great.

hope my question makes sence.

ps . also which one would you use for dadgad?

depending on what you wanna do...

i've always used the 4 of the key of the harmonica to determine which key on my guitar i want to be in...

so, if i'm playing a song in C, i'll want to use a harmonica in the key of G (G,A,B,C C=4)

if you're in open D, then work back works to figure out the key of the harmonica (D,C,B,A)...and A would be the key of the harmonica

that's a pretty simple breakdown if you're just doin simple stuff

and for the dadgad, that's REAL close to open D, so just use A i would think
B+P by offer only...thank you

if you are playing a song that stays in the blues scale, then your best bet would be to play in its relative major
