Building the bridge.....

Alright so you know sometimes a kick ass bridge totally makes a song right, does anyone know some theory to make bridge writing easier? If the songs in 1-3-5 in C than would a 1-3-5 in G or Fb be the way to go since those are the fiths of C? I was hoping senoir fatjack or someone else with the theory chops could help a brotha out.....

First of all...Fb?? A bridge is sometimes the same chordal progression in a different key. This is often achieved by using what's called secondary dominants. The dominant chord is the 5th chord. So in C the dominant chord is G7. So if you wanted to modulate to the key of D for your bridge you could use the dominant chord A7, which resolves directly into Dmaj. I also suggest experimenting with diminished 7th chords, to resolve into a different key. Once in a different key lay down the same 1-3-5 or 1-4-5 or if you want a totally new progression but the essences of a bridge is usually modulation.

Anyways, the scale tones go 1-tonic, 2-supertonic, 3-mediant, 4-sub-dominant, 5-dominant, 6-submediant, 7-leading tone, 8-tonic right? Now, if your in the key of C wouldnt the dominant be G? I guess I dont understand why it would be G7.

its G7 because the notes in G7 fit into the C major scale. if you played something like a Gmaj7, then you would have an F#, which isn't in C major. You can play a G as well, the G7 is just the extended chord

and in the circle of fifths, it goes in fifths clockwise, but it goes in fourths counter-clockwise. since F is to the left of C, F is the fourth (or sub-dominant) of the key of C.

Mostly kmart, wallmart, anything mart is good. There is such a thing as Fb actually, it would be the one of the enharmonic names for E. But, only a retard like me would say it like that. Thats not what I meant anyways, all I meant was F going couterclockwise from C on the circle of fifths. I said it wrong, but thats what I meant. Thats the story Im going with......(yeah, thats the ticket!)
