but do whatever you want

try to come up with your own stuff, too, but covers are essential

Shawn Colvin put out a CD called "Cover Girl" which every song on the CD was...you guessed it, a cover. It is one of my favorite all time CD's, and to me it defines what a good cover is....her interpretation of the song.

I think it takes a whole lot of talent and creativeness to put an individual spin to someone elses song. I would have a really hard time doing that because the original version would be playing in my mind and I think it would be hard to turn that off to depart from it.

Covers are good....but I like to hear original stuff too.
