American Singer/Songwritter???

Hey guys now that the new american idol is starting up, do you think it would be a good idea to have an american singer/songwritter where people with actual musical talent compete? I know that it would be totaly popularizing something that is not meant to be. but i think it would be cool.. thoughts?

yea, but its hard to judge songwriting, because everyone likes different things.

maybe if they were all given a song to learn then perform it? judged on performance? i dunno...just a thought. this show would have too many little things that people would debate on.

there is a little songwritng contest everyweek over the internet. Ive never tried it, but I was thinking of trying it this week

but the first auditions are sooo funny, people think they are soo talented and then get torn apart by simon and then they dont believe it. i always watch the first ones... but knowing me if i would enter the singer/sognwriter idol contest and get torn apart then argue with em

I agree with you on the song writing contest. Have different spots available for differeny types of music. Like take a song from a few different genres and have the audience vote, Fuck what simon thinks..

yeah, i only watch the first three shows where all the shitty people are performing, then i stop watching after that

I'm saying its a different idea. I saw Simon on the Stern show and he was saying that he could listen to Coldplay and not know what to say. That just proves Simons a fucking retard. Those singers on Idle try to hard to sound good..
