DAVE WANNABEES part 2

Unread post by CheersDtoT » Sun Feb 02, 2003 2:18 pm

I read that first statment on the Dave Wannabee post. Don't ever fucking dog on those guys ( Howie Day, Ari Hest, Jack Johnson, ect..) You don't know, they work their ass off. And everyone who thinks like you don't see somthing. DMB isn't just a band that plays good music, but DMB has created a new style of music! It's a totaly new style of music, that lots of people are interested in. You could say it's Jazz//Folk music. And if you have ever listened to Howie Day and Ari Hest, sure they sound like Dave, but they have taken that sound to a new level. Jack Johnson doesn't even play like Dave( I don't know where you got that) His chord structures and playing style aren't even simular to Dave's. Jack Johnson has the beach sufer sound ( which has been around a long time ). John Mayer .... well..... I don't really care for the guy, but don't ever trash the man. All of these guys are doing what they love and haveing a good time doing it. If you can't respect that then you are just jealous. Don't ever say that people COPY DMB sound, because they don't. DMB's new style of music is up for grabs and people want it. These guys have their own sound/ DMB sound. Now sorry if I came on a little strong, but it's just not cool to sit in your chair and tarsh on guys who will carry the DMB sound into the next generation. Just think of when Dave dies...... huh ...... never thought of that. It's going to be people like these guys and you and me who will keep the sound alive. Now I didn't mean to tear any of you guys down, it's just that some people don't realize. I know this kind of sounds like a hostile post , but it's not intended to be. I hope all you guys have a great day!
Cheers

the funny thing about jack johnson is he didn't even work hard for it. he was sort of talked into making a cd about 3 years ago and you could get for free on internet. it just so happens that enough people heard it and it started to spread. he didn't even really want to do the tours and an actual album, his wife and his best friend sort of talked him into it.

Just a little tidbit

Calm down bro.

Someone who wasn't mentioned was Ben Harper! I know he opened for DMB, and has his own style and everything. However he is "a guy with an accoustic".

I don't know what my point is here, but ben's the man. love that guy.

i hate him...i think he's one of those idiotic 'i'm playing this to impress the mindless ladies out there in the audience' musicians... a somewhat john mayer vibe...

dbernard, I have to dissagree with you about Jack. I've been surfing for a long time and been around the culture, and even before his first CD came out (not bushfirefairytales) he was jammin for fun, putting songs on surf videos and just having fun with his music. Alot of the pro surfers, most who are close friends, also have bands, Kelly slater being one and Jack another. When people outside the surfing comunity started to hear and like his music, he took it to the next step. And who wouldn't. Check out the video "Thicker Than Water" and "September Sessions" to hear some other songs of his and other good guitarists/musicians like him.

Personally I think he is chilled and the only thing close to Dave is that the music is chill.

Don't be rippin so hard on ben. I konw most of his songs are GDC or CAmE or whatever, but his lyrics actually mean a lot...... And he plays that wierd guitar thing he has and thats good......

Bob Dylan wasn't the greatest guitarist either but people can relate to his songs!

unlike Sk8er Boi!

What are you talking about?!?!?!? Don't diss Sk8er Boi!!! It's like my fffaaaaaaaaaaaaaavorite song in the whole wide world. I mean, it speaks directly to my life in soo sooo many ways! I mean, just look at the title! It's soooo creative and in touch with the current generation, the clever usage of 8 because we're all such lazy schmucks that we have to have stupid abbreviations for our words, and the misspelling of boi is so, like, kool! Get it? Kool? Kool!!!

Avril 4ever.
