taylor 310 or taylor 610
So........I'm finally good enough that I feel I deserve a good guitar. I heard so many reviews online about Taylors. I tried out a 310 at guitar center and really liked it. I was set on getting one of those. Everything online said the 310's were great. So i'm about to buy and I talk to one of my dad's friends who has been playing guitar his whole life and said you'll regret getting anything less than at 600 series. Obviously the 600 series is going to be better...but it means a significant extra amount of money. But then again if i'm already spending 1000+.....anyway, just looking for some advice on which one to buy

Of course the higher the model the better its going to be and the more you'll like it. But I dont agree with the "anything less than a 600 series you'll end up regretting" statement at all. I have a 410 and I dont regret it for a second, the guitar is amazing.
Play as many as you can and buy the one you like the most that has a price you're comfortable with.

agreed, i have a 314 and i love it. i could have spent another grand on a 614 series but you wont go wrong with any high end guitar. a good guitar is nice to have but once you get into the high end range, the differences arent that huge in my personal opinion.

talked to my dads friend today. His complaint about the 310's because two people he knew had them and he said they broke down a lot over the years. more than they should have for the price paid for them. he said its well worth the extra money for the 600 series because it will last longer and hold value better too in case i end up selling it down the road.

Also keep in mind that the 3 series uses mohagany which is warm and midrangy while the 6 series is flamed maple and tends to sound bright and snappy (less sustain) making it good for live play.
So my point is to play each of them because they will sound different.
EDIT: And since Kahn didnt...I will. Check out Larrivee guitars. I would take a D-03R over a Taylor 310 any day

Do I listen to pop music because I'm miserable or am I miserable because I listen to pop music?

I don't really like 6's that much. A 7 or 8 would be around the same price but a much much nicer guitar.
Re: taylor 310 or taylor 610
there's only one taylor guitar I'd get, the 714 ce. It's got a cedar top and sounds o so sweet. Otherwise I'd say get a martin or larivee. Taylors are overpriced. Martin has ruined me personally. I now won't settle for any guitar that doesn't have that warm bass and boom that martins have. And they don't feel like they'll break if you play them too hard.

I would take a steaming pile of Jean Larrivee's doo doo over a Taylor any day. It probably sounds better.RunsWithBuffalo wrote:Also keep in mind that the 3 series uses mohagany which is warm and midrangy while the 6 series is flamed maple and tends to sound bright and snappy (less sustain) making it good for live play.

I own a 710 L9. It is built very well and sounds AMAZING. I played a Martin D28 for 2 years and it was a nice guitar. Martin and Taylor have 2 different styles of sound. I agree with the other poster about the D35. Incredible lows, signature Martin sound. For my ear and style of playing I prefer the bright sound of my 710 and I can play as hard as I possibly can. The guitar takes everything I give it and then some.Banjobach wrote:there's only one taylor guitar I'd get, the 714 ce. It's got a cedar top and sounds o so sweet.
