Who's voice do you like better? Vedder or Bono.
they're both amazing, accomplished artists.. i think ed vedder has a better voice. i think he can belt out a lot of power.... still even today. i think his lyrics are consistently amazing in all of his songs. that why i like him better.. it s a pretty subjective debate in the first place. no winners on this board. p.s how come the topic of disscussion gets changed to totally something different. (i.e boyd tinsely)..
Its like... getting two birds stoned at once. (Ricky-trailor park boys).

You are entitled to your opinion, and I agree that Boyd is not the best violinist ever. I never said he was. What you seem to be misunderstanding is that a violinist with better technical abilities would not necessarily make for a better band. Although he is not a stunning technical player, his musical ideas certainly go into the creative process, and it seems to be working well for DMB. A great technical player capable of playing a zillion notes a second with an amazing amount of harmonic variation may be a great technical player, but may lack any form of independent, creative thought. Have you ever listened to Neil Young? Should crazy horse have kicked him out because he can just barely play guitar? I don't think so. What he lacked in technical ability he made up for in songwriting. Are you currently in a band? Would you rather have a creative minded person who has ben with you from the beginning in the band with you or someone with no creative thought but great speed? Consider this view- technical ability does NOT equal good musician.

I certainly understand the distinction...I'm hardly a person who says you have to have the best to make a good sound, but have you really listened to boyd live lately?! He sounds absolutely and completely hideous...look how well Butch has fit in w/ the band...they'd do fine bringing someone new in w/ more talent.

They have both impressed me tremendously with their talent, however I don't really know what to look for when considering who is "better". I guess I would have to say Vedder is better because I like listening to him sing more than Bono. I like Pearl Jam more than U2 so I'm sure that plays a part in it. BTW, where do yall think Dave stands in all of this mess? Do you think that Bono/Vedder could do the screaming at the end of DDTW like Dave?
after watching central park (which is mega amazing) i am totally impressed w/ dave's voice. its stronger seeming. there is this part on ants where he really just sounds fantastic. then there is all the screaming. i knew he could yell but damn, that show was so intense. he can certainly hang w/ the other yellers.....

Listen to your friend Billy Zane....

I think Dave's voice has improved a ton. I was listening to the DKE house from 92 and then I watched the CP DVD and there is a major difference. He goes from the part on Jimi Thing when he sings real high (when he's not playing guitar and he looks constipated) to the end of Watchtower. That impressed me and as much as I can't understand most of the words, he sounds good on An Another Thing off SD.
In my original post, I didn't mean how was better in a technical sense just who you liked better. Thanks for all your input.

Re: hmmmmm......
Have you ever listened past track 3 of the All That You Can't Leave Behind album? I suggest you give it a shot.pjdave1 wrote:Well, if you take note, I actually NEVER used the phrase "selling out", nor do I think it would apply to either band. If your reread my original post, I actually do really like U2, and I respect what they have done for rock music. As for not knowing anything about music, assuming that I am the person you are referring to, I am about to graduate with a BA in music and will be pursuing a masters in Music Technology, and I can recite the lyrics to any U2 song (as well as play damn near all of them on guitar ((yawn)), and can do the same for Pearl Jam). It would be silly to say that U2 has sold out, but it would be equally as silly to say that there is as much to Bono's lyrical content as there once was. As for good ole' Justin Timberlake, he is a VERY good singer, and exceptional dancer, but hardly what I would call a "musician". If you would like to hear a "musician", or musical ensemble, go listen to the Cleveland Orchestra, or Winton Marseilles, or Victor Wooten, or Dave Matthews, or Pearl Jam, or U2. If you fail to see why Justin Timberlake does not fit the bill, I would encourage you to do some research into what makes a person a "musician". Singing a song which was written in a studio, probably by someone else (not out of personal feeling or forum for voicing an opinion, but out of the quest to make a dollar) certainly does not constitute music, although it is a good example of capitalism. Look, the point is that Bono was good (one of the greatest) when he was doing Bono's thing, but "Beautiful Day" sounds too much like everything else.
