How to Sound proof drums inside a room??

Unread post by cgalves » Fri Jun 15, 2007 8:09 pm

Heres my situation:

I have a drum set in my room where my band practices. The problem is that the drum set is far too loud, especially whenever we're trying to play at lower sound levels like at night.

Question: What's the most cost-effective way to soundproof the drums?

I'm thinking of just buying some plexi-glass and putting sheets of it around the drums, and on the top and bottom too. Anyone know if this would be effective?

building a platform out of 2x4s and 3/4" plywood to put the entire set on will really help. it only needs to be a few inches off the ground. also, hanging drapes made out of thick materials on the walls will help, but there are more effective (read:more expensive) ways to soundproof the actual walls.

actually, are you talking about just making the drums quieter for better 'mixing' with the other instruments? in that case, yes a plexiglass drum cage like Kahn mentioned is your best bet. those run around $200 I think, but I know there are different sizes.

yea eactly, i just want to make the drums quieter so that they mix in better with the band and don't sound so loud. I'm not looking to make them sound like nothing, only quiter. thanks for the advice!!
