daves 12 string

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

I do know that Taylor lists the W65 for some rediculous amount...if I had my catalog on me I'd tell you, it'll have to wait till I get home from work though.

Usually you can take between 25 to 35% off the list price to find the actual selling price.

Yeah, I don't know why Taylor lists them for that much, it's rediculous.

Hahaha, true, though, I always end up trying to explain to my non guitar playing friends that 1) why I would spend $3600 on a piece of wood with strings and 2) why I need another guitar when I already have 3.

They had one at a store here for $2,400 something I think. I couldn't buy it, but I got to play it, and like most taylors, it is SWEET!

and so the official Taylor fanatic chimes in:

the Walnut and Koa (W & K) have been done away with on the normal production list, and now can only be custom ordered. i heard that a K14 can now cost the combined price of a PS14 + 310 due to the koa crisis in hawaii. a W65e last year wouldve run you over $5000 list if im not mistaken, usually youre able to get a guitar for 40% off list price.

for a W65, your cheapest bet is to buy one used, however i doubt there are many up for sale anywhere.

you could try going through a small luthier though, you can find some killer guitars out there if you look hard enough.

I don't want to burst anyones bubble, but they stopped making the exact 12 string that Dave plays. You can custom order it, but you can't buy it off the shelf unless you find someone that still has it, but that's highly unlikely. The W-65's Taylor makes now are only cutaways, not full body. So if you want that exact guitar, you're looking at $4,000-5,000 for a basic, no electronics, no fansy inlays, things like that. So there ya have it ;-)

I just noticed this about a week ago... but I thought it was rather weird, cause those were some of their best looking, eye-catching guitars, and they played GREAT! But yes, I totally agree with you, and my last post states that ;-)

problem i believe with walnut is that it doesnt sell as well as the others so they dont see much of a point of making them standard production models.

Also it's becoming much more difficult to find guitar quality walnut wood. Farmers like to grow the more manageable walnut bushes than walnut trees. So, like the Brazilian rosewood, walnut has gone the way of limited and custom orders.
You can order a W65 just like the 98 production models but now it will be a custom order, which will run around $3000 + tax.
