playing live

hey everyone...im not sure what part of the forum to put this in...but i played for the first time live in a local cafe....after i was a finished some girls asked if i would play at their social...i said sure and they said to call them later with a price....this is my problem....i dont know what to charge them...ill be playing for about two hours....neway i hope someone could give me some advice.....thanks everyone...peace

If you're just starting out, and this will be a relatively big event, price it VERY low. They're doing you a favor by getting you out into the public. It'll generate more interest than money, but that's probably what you want.

play for whatever they want to play. Insit that you don't care, and that will show that you are playing for music, and not money. DMB played for free some places to get out there. If you get a chance to play live, take it, worry about money later. Just get up there and play. The more you play, the more people will notice you, and then people will pay more money if they really do get into your stuff.

So, play for playing, let them worry about price, and make sure you portray that you don't care about the money, but to just play.
