Easiest Dave song to learn?

Unread post by mikee » Thu Jan 29, 2004 10:12 pm

For a beginner guitar player(one who knows at least how to hold a guitar and play a few chords), what would be the easiest Dave song to learn? I am guessing Satellite? Or maybe Pay For Whatch Ya' Get? What are your inputs? :?:

I'll back you up isnt hard...replace the x-5-4-2-x-4 chord with a regular E major chord till you get that stretch, and rock on

yeah, dont even look at satellite for another few months, seriously, and it would be kind of important if you want to learn a lot of dave, to learn to play the chords with all the muting, like in grey street, tripping billies, and stay

I didn't know the topic had came up before...I will search it. I forgot how east 36, TS and PM were to play....I should start playing them again...I used to play like five years ago...but got discouraged because I only tried Dave songs like TB and WWYS and couldn't get anywhere with em' so I quit. Now that I am a bit older I realize I have to crawl before I can run like a Caveman being chased by a Brontasaurus -You ain't gonna get my meat you big scaly horned bitch....lol Thanks!

Hey Dude,
I am trying to stay away from the muting....IT SCARES THE SHEEEEEYIT outta me....I sound like I am trying to break everyone of my strings when I attempt it.....Any advice on practicing it? Do you mute with your fret hand or strumming hand?? Thanks man!

I really cannot play sheeeyit when it comes to Dave, but I can play Satellite really well....I started it as a finger exercise, because I read a Dave book and he said that is how the song originated...So that is perty much the only one I can play well....Is that weird?

Agreed.

Now I think the easiest Dave song to learn would probably be....... Don't Drink the Water. Even though it's in Dropped D tuning, it's very easy to play. One main chord for the verse, one chord for the pre-chorus, and 2 for the chorus, kind of hard to explain where each is at, but it has an easy strum style, and there is only, I believe, 4 chords through the entire song, and one different one at the end. Ok, now that I really over-complicated this song, I will stop my rambling ;-) But it is very easy to learn.

There are so many of these threads. I vote for Typical Situation and Big Eyed Fish, just like before...

I'll have to learn that one....but first I have to learn how to drop D tune...Grrrr I know the just of it, but my ears cannot recognize the tune yet, nor will my tuner adjust to D for the E string......I'm sure I can get a friend to show me...

Easiest way to drop your low E to D is to tune to the A string.. instead of tuning on the 5th fret, tune on the 7th, and drop your low E string until it's in tune..

-OR-

Use the D (#4) string to tune the low E string down a step. It's a different octave, but if you have a good ear, shouldn't be hard. Listen for the overtones.
