the stone tab is wrong?(reply to the post "the stone&am

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

the stone tab is wrong?(reply to the post "the stone&am

This was supposed to be a reply to the post "the stone", but i somehow cocked it up in the prosess of posting a reply, so here goes..

As far as i can tell the tab of "the Stone" the it is given here, is not completely right.

This is the way it is given here...

E:----------------------------
B:----------------------------
G:-----2----------------------
D:---------3--5-5-2-3-2--
A:--5-------------------------
E:----------------------------

The song has six strokes. And you can hear this by counting while listening to this little riff in the start. The first three plucks are a full stroke each, the next 6 plucks are a half stroke each. With the way the tab is given in the previous posts and on this site, it would not add up to a full 6 strokes. Therefore there must be an extra pluck in the tab. As far as I can tell Dave plucks the D string twice on the 5 fret then twice on the 2 fret and then once each on the third and second fret.

Like this....

E:----------------------------
B:----------------------------
G:-----2----------------------
D:---------3--5-5-2-2-3-2--
A:--5-------------------------
E:----------------------------
1 2 3 4 5 6 strokes makes a full 6 strokes..

What do you say?

As far as I can tell, there are only 5 notes picked.

In the sequence, I've always felt the 5th 'note' (since you can hear it, subtly) resulted from pulling off the 3rd fret for the 6th note.

I could be wrong though.

The tab on this site is right...Dave does, every so often, hit the strings just as lpittman has tabbed however...this is just another variation of the song that "just happens" when dave is strumming...I personally don't think he does it on purpose, he just doesn't correct it because it still sounds good...for instance, sometimes when I play this song, it just happens...if Dave played perfect every single time, it would most likely only be the 5 notes...if you listen to the album version where everything is perfect, only 5 notes will be apparent....hope this helps...peace.

To clarify...I don't think either are really wrong...but I feel the tab on this site is definitely correct....peace again!

hey..

dont get hostile on me. I just thought id get a discussion on the subject. I had not heard the studio version before i posted the first post i submitted. And i agree, he pauses for a 1/12 stroke at the end of the riff. But on the videos i have seen ( charlie rose show ) and another one. I get the idea that there is no 1/12 pause in the end of the riff. And thats why i posted in the first place.

cheers..

great site. chill.. peace ..
