Help with "Stay"

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

Help with "Stay"

Unread post by erech » Sun Nov 30, 2003 11:21 pm

Hey, I was wondering if anyone has some hints on how to get those mutes down on stay, my fingers just don't want to stay down on top string. Anyone got any pointers?

THanks!

Hey erech , welcome to the DMBTabs lovely community :)

One thing that would help you alot is to be able to mute using your middle finger and your ring finger like Dave does , you can rest those on the E and A string and jam away , it takes some practice to get used to have your fingers in that position , but thats probably the best way , in case you can't rest both your fingers that way , you could do it with either your middle finger or ring finger , it doesn't have to be both of them

Hope that cleared it up a bit for you

good advice. also if you'll angle your stroke a little starting further away from the guitar at the top and and striking down and towards the guitar, it'll help you get used to hitting all the strings except the low E.

since about Feb. this year, and I gotta say, this site has been a savior, I have been using these tabs for a long time, figured I should join the boards. Very excited to hear that there is an instruction dvd coming out, this is exciting.

I lightly bar my index finger across all the strings then play the notes with my other 3 fingers. This way you can really strum away and you'll only hear the notes you want.

keep the right hand movin
its tough, but you'll get it with practice. if this helps - the first notes after you first mute in the intro/verse

Code: Select all

E:----------------
B:----------------
G:-10---x---10--
D:-8----x---8----
A:-x----x---x----
E:-x----x---x----
                 ^ that
that is an upstroke, i had trouble with it. but you just gotta let it flow and get funky and it'll come. good luck man
