I want to play #40...

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

I want to play #40...

Unread post by Lilsters » Mon Nov 10, 2003 9:37 pm

...the way that Dave plays it at Yoshi's.

Can someone help me out? I know the chords and all, but i can't for the life of me figure out the strumming. Is he finger picking? Is it two guitars? It's got a very unique sound that I can't replicate. Any suggestions?

the most important thing about #40 is the root note during the verses. the strumming of the rest of the chord is kinda secondary to hitting the 3, 2, on the A and 1 on the E. i usually only hit like one string on my way back up to hit the next root note. now during the chorus and the little thing between the verse and chorus is all about playing w/ the song. very weird timings so you're goign to want to just play w/ the song constantly. a great song to master, keep trying.

this is my favorite version of my favorite DMB song EVER. i just love this version of the song. everything about it is perfect, from the awesome strumming pattern to the vocals .... ive listened to it everyday for like 5 months now.

as for playing it just like dave, it IS a werid strumming pattern, but when you pick the 3 - 2 - 1 then the 2 - 0 - 1, be sure to ALTERNATE pick those notes to go along with the rhythm of the song ... thats how i play it, and it sounds pretty damn close to yoshi's .... it is hard to play in this manner, requiring some quickness, but it gives the song that great feel.

seriously? how can you hate them?

A friend is always good to have
But a lover's kiss is better than angels raining down on me

I wish that i could climb inside your mind
and spend some time in there
and hug and hold you
and mold you into what i'd like
but no i can't do this...

gorgeous lyrics.

Yeah, fo' real, theyre awesome. Then again, I also like the I let you down lyrics and I'm sure of you guys also dont like that. I love the line "let me climb up you to the top so that I can see the view, from up there, tangled in your hair".
