Warehouse.. HELP!!!

Unread post by wwbom02 » Thu Oct 10, 2002 1:22 am

Hello Everyone...
I've been playing guitar for about six months and have found that I can figure out most of Daves songs.... But to be honest the only one I haven't been able to get down even after practice is warehouse... Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.. I'm starting to get frustrated...

Thanks for your time.. Brad

I'm with ya man, I have quite a problem with the rhythm on the verses. I always seem to be a little too fast or a little too slow. I'm just gonna wait for Jared to pos the video, that will help immensely...

Hey man, Warehouse looks really really cool when Dave plays it. But its actually not THAT hard. I have only been playing guitar for 5months and I can do it well enough to sing to it. When jkanter gets the video up it will be waaay easier , but until then , if you get Listener Supported DVD for like 15bucks, or download just the warehouse from it, you can see DAve play it perfectly. The way he swings his fingers around to mute and switches hand postitions is 'kinda tough' but if you watch it enough, you'll definitely get it. And its SO COOL!!!!!!! good luck.

This song is one of the most fun to play solo. Dave has a way of kepping time by always keeping his strumming going during the verses of this song. No matter what, if you just trap all of the off time strumming, you can keep the tempo and beat of it. If you need some help getting the strumming pattern, just practice stumming while trapping...this has always been a tactic of mine for playing new and dificult songs. Once you get the strumming, its just a matter of slapping those fingers on the strings. Practice it without the music (when you get the strumming down); also, learn to "slap" your fingers to get the right attacking sound that Dave gets on the Listener Supported cut.

PRACTICE!!! It sounds cliched but play with the song, then play by yourself; keep also in mind that you will think you got it down...then, months later, you will find that there is a better way to "stum" or "chop" it!
Work on it and keep on strumming!!!

i actually use my pinky to hit that 11th fret... which helps me. even though it's not 100% accurate. you could also put it in drop D and move your index finger to the 9th fret and bar the first 2 strings for easier access... but that is just a thought.

Watch LS like someone said and see how Dave plays it, it should help...I agree it's a hard rhythm to get down at first but I think listening closely to the way Dave strums it, then tryin to play with the song, then playin by yourself is a good way to approach it, thats usually what I do...and again like someone said don't stop strumming, mute the strings and just keep practicing, this is not a very easy song to get down...good luck, hope I could help

When your playing Warehouse you have to keep the rhythme with your strumming hand . When you play don't hit all the strings ( when they are muted ) just hit the one you are going to play . If you hit all the strings you will get the note you want , but you with get this ass sounding thud . When I was talking to TR , we were playing some guitar .... and he confirmed my suspicions about the song . Also if you have only been playing for 6 months don't expect the be playing songs like Warehouse right off the bat , of course with practice you will get it . But it's better to practice your techneique than to play actually songs . When I first started playing I didn't even touch Warehouse until I had played for a year ( and I play at least six hours a day , ever day ) . Now that I play guitar for a living those songs are nothing to me , because my tech. is so good that Dave songs are nothing , and I have moved on to hard TR songs . Just remember this , anyone can play a Dave song , but only the guitar players with good tech. can make them sound good . If you have ever gone to an open mic ( at a cafe ) and seen some poor fool make a fool of himself trying to play Ants Marching or Warehouse it does look good . And if you want to be a muscian for life and use that as a job , then you can't get bad raps like that . Because people will always remeber your first performance . I'm not saying your not a good guitar player , because you havn't been playing that long . I'm just saying that I know people that have been playing as long as me , and they don't have good tech. , so when they play a Dave song it sounds like they have only been playing for a year . But don't worry , when I first started playing I sucked big time , I was probably worse than you ( I only knew five chords ) but with a shit load of practice , and working on your tech. you will be the BOMB SHIT ....... and when girls see you bust out a song like Tripping Billies or Crash they are going to want to so bad .... trust me I know ...... and when you get good enough start making your own songs . Dave songs are good to play when starting out ...... but much respect follows you if you write your own stuff . Sorry I didn't mean to preach . but I'm just trying to help you and who ever . And if you have any other questions about guitars ir any thing email me at PSpy12@aol.com . Cheers everyone !!!

I suggest trying to download an acoustic version of this song if you don't wanna wait for the video...

The chorus and bridge use a TOTALLY different strumming pattern than the verse...I'd tab it out for you...but the tab won't get it across....you gotta hear it...god luck though man!

Hang on a second Cheers, are you saying that you don't play the muted strings? Why would you mute them then?
