Dave's Vocals

Unread post by DmbFanJason » Sun Oct 19, 2003 6:41 pm

I know this is Dave's "guitar discussion" but in the end...it's all about Dave right?....heh hem...anyway....so I was thinking, what year/tour in yall's opinion do you think that Dave's vocals sounded the best? I think they sounded fuckin phenomenal in the 97 D&T tour...his vocal tone was just mind boggling(OSW, ANTS, LIOG, LYD...to name a few)....much better than the 99 D&T tour I think...but then you also have the 98 tour with the Chicago album where you just faint when listening to the 41 or DDTW from that show...but I think overall it has to be the 97 D&T tour, I have like 5 shows from that year...all amazing....

so what do yall think?

96'-97' were some of his best for sure. I think his voice on Some Devil is awesome. He has matured a lot as a singer. He doesn't do that Kermit the Frog voice any more. The title track is a perfect example of how great a singer he is.

Yea, he has come a long way with his voice.. now that he is getting older, it's getting to a great amazing tone where you just wanna faint when you hear it.. it's still got the little bit of raspiness in it, but it's like.. the perfect tone..

The little imperfections in his voice are what make his voice as characteristic as it is. If his voive were perfect, it'd be boring. I love the title track of some devil, too. I'm listening to it for the first time as I write this post. Beautiful.

I agree with the 97 D+T......... the DDTW on the lost acoutics...... :o  ...especially the ''SAY you will lay your hands...''
If you listen to that part recently he actually sings it in falsetto now (most of the time).....it's f'n amazing..

I was just thinking this the other day. I like Dave's "newer" voice, than his "older" voice. Sounds more full, more powerful to me.

definitely the newer ones. the jamming on the early shows is awesome but i rarely listen because of dave's voice. but now it's phenominal.

Although his singing has improved a lot, he sings falsetto so much on Some Devil and it bugs the bejeezus outta me. Trouble and Grey Blue Eyes are good for a non-falsetto voce, but the latter of the 2 is not that great. But his style surely has improved and gotten better.

I would say his voice was the best between 95-97. I have this live full band version of Little Thing in 95(which if any of you want I'll give it to you) where he hits this like 12second high note like nothing Ive ever heard before. And its right on and so perfect. Never will he be able to sing like he did then, but Some Devil does show off a lot of his vocals, theyve changed not for better, and not for worse, theyve jus changed.

It hard to beat the passion intro from L@LC, also.
