So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

I was just watching this DVD and noticed between 'The Stone' and 'Pig' Dave did a little tuning on his guitar. But I checked the tabs for both songs and they're both in standard. Was he just fixing something he heard? What gives?

I know a lot of times.(like in storytellers) dave just messes with the tuning gear for fun.. when he goes from satellite to billies he tunes it down the back up and they're both in standard.. so it's probably that..

Dave has said he is really bad at tuning, so I bet he is trying his best to tune it, so he takes a few trys til he gets it.
What's amazing is timmy tuning while playing! If you don't have video, and just listen, you would never know that he was tining.
Also, there is a trick to help keep your guitar in tune after you tune. If you just tune it down, and such, the strings will slide a little more after playing a little. What you do is you tune down just a little before the note, and tune up. That helps keep the strings in tune longer. I actualy bet that is what Dave was doing, he tunes it, and it it's too sharpe, so he tunes it up again.
Yes, I am in a box

Tim does seem to tune at any time, I've noticed this from countless videos. One thing I've noticed is he starts to tune just as Dave starts the song...Tim gives a few cranks on the tuner and then steps right in.
Oh yeah...the Gorge shows...over the years the shows at the Gorge have kind of become the Mecca of the tour. The setting is awesome, right in the middle of a beautiful river gorge, with camping available (which is great because they usually play for 2 or 3 nights there). The band has said that they really enjoy that venue, so it usually results in a great performance. Also, they (DMB) are known for bringing out some rare songs while playing there. I've never been there, but its on my list of "must do's".
