finger nail abrasions

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

finger nail abrasions

Unread post by The Man of The Hour » Thu Sep 25, 2003 2:09 pm

Does anyone else get an abrasion on their index finger of their strumming hand? I'm obviously holding the pick and hitting the string with my index finger nail...just curious if anyone has a similar situation and/or what's bad about it. I sense nothing wrong with it, and it looks like it will grow back, just kind of bugging me.

This happens when I play some songs (Nancies in particular). I was playing it once and I started bleeding right where the nail ends and the finger begins. Hurt like a bitch for a couple days too.

I hate it when my skin gets dry, and I get cracks in my skin on my stumming hand and when I try to strum and pick with my hand, it hurts. I then go for my extra strong glue, and put some in it, and everything is fine :) .

i went through a no pick phase i few months back. i remember after a while it hurt too bad to strum.

i had multiple cracks in my nails due to that. glad i got into the habit of using the pick.

If i am not warmed up enough, if I play Crash Into Me, my hand starts aching twards the end. I also like the sound of the full chord rather than what Dave does after a while, so I bare the pain, and shake the shit out of my hand afterwards, lol.
