How many times do you play the diff. parts in the Stone????

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

How many times do you play the diff. parts in the Stone????

Unread post by Speenis » Thu Aug 14, 2003 2:03 am

A few months back, I wrote down on a piece of paper how many times dave plays all the different guitar parts according to the Charlie Rose show video... Well I can't find it anymore and was wondering if anyone can help me out... For example, He plays the intro a few times, then the verse about 7 times, then the chorus 2x i believe, then the transition about 3-4x, and back to the verse... See what I mean??? If anyone has the whole thing written out that would be great... If not I'll have to do it myself, but it was a pain in the butt (more or less) to do and was just wondering if anyone had it typed up or anything to save me some time. If not thats no biggie...

Well.. What I did for it.. is go by feel.. make the intro as short or as long as you need it.. i use it to prepare the first liens of the song cuz once i get past those im usually good for the rest of the song remembering lyrics wise.. and the rest just do it on feel. The lyrics should guide you in the verses and chorus and stuff and for parts lik trasistions "I will go" parts just do it on feel no one will notice if you thow it in an extra time when there are no lyrics or just holding a note... I just developed a feel for how long it was... since me and active time keeping dont work i have to develop feels for the tempos and times of songs, but yes.. just practice it and youll just start to feel the song. and if your hand falls off after 32 times, just practice it.. i practiced just the intro for maybe 20 minutes straight and now i have no problems at all with it.

Thanks all...
Thanks 4month, but I unfortunately did it myself about 15 mins before your post...ouch. Anywho, I am doing mine based off of a radio show vid which I believe is almost exactly the same as the Charlie Rose Show vid. Thanks anyway!

well i was gonna do it last night, since I wrote down all the parts, then had to go to work...and in that whole process...someone decided to turn off my electricity and I just got it back today...So hopefully tonight or sometime tomorrow. But thanks for asking. I felt real confident the other night playing it, but I can't quite play it all the way through so I'm not sure if I'll record it in parts(no looping) and then sing over it or what..

oh i see cool, i'd play about half then stop, delete the excess silence from stopping it then just play the other half at the end. then vocals could go over that. thats what i would probably do,i hope it goes well

I think it was orginally on PBS maybe? But it's pretty much just an old guy interviewing people on his show, and Dave happened to be on it. You should download the Stone from it.. It's great.

Well I actually did see that show, but it wasn't on PBS. It was like WCBN something like that... It's usually the channel where Christian shows are broadcast and all that. It might just be a local channel around here.. but its still not PBS. :D
