Trippin' Billies Lyric Question
I always thought he was saying:
"Dragons were smote"
not "Dgragons were smoked"
I'm surprised no on else has commented on this. Maybe because I'm wrong haha.. but listen to billies again, I think I may be on to something.....

From what i know, the song is about taking way too much acid. and from what i have heard i believe he says, "dragons were smoked". now i've done my share of acid and i've also heard that a joint rolled in acid is sometimes called a dragon. don't ask me why, but i have heard it.
its "dragons were smoked," not smote.
what kind of word is smote anyway? *duuurrrunnnk*

Yeah, you're right. I either read it, or saw it in an interview with Dave, where he talks about the reference. and it was a Puff the Magic Dragon.
The Man of The Hour wrote:The line "Dragons were smoked" comes from the whole "Puff The Magic Dragon" thing. I've heard dave say it in a video, I think I still have it actually.
smote would be like the dragons were killed, i think its some medievel word or something, so "dragons were smote" would make sense but not in the context of the song, cuz...well its already explained and i'm lazy.dmfollower wrote:From what i know, the song is about taking way too much acid. and from what i have heard i believe he says, "dragons were smoked". now i've done my share of acid and i've also heard that a joint rolled in acid is sometimes called a dragon. don't ask me why, but i have heard it.

I can't believe that we would lie in our graves,
dreaming of things we might have been.

i just finished reading the DMB bio "step into the light" and, if true, the book cited dave as saying that tripping billies was about a beach party he had in high school in south africa with a bunch of friends. needless to say, they got wasted and were tripping out. also, apparently he and his buddies climbed to the top of this little "cliff" and dave ended up falling off, face first into the sand. go figure.
anyways, this is the tripping billies story in the "official" bio of the band, as told by dave himself. the lyrics pretty much corroborate the story. just thought id share, and id recommend the book to all.
peace
