Where Are You Going Strumming pattern'ed

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

Where Are You Going Strumming pattern'ed

Unread post by Chumpnet » Tue Nov 19, 2002 11:15 pm

jkanter and gang,

I hope you guys don't mind if I post a tab. WAYG is yet to be posted and I figure some people might be interested. Also, I try my best to follow the DMBTabs standard of approval, ie. try to be as accurate as possible and tab off of a video which in this case is the Virgin Mega Store video.

Anyway, here's WAYG, during the fingerpicking days I suppose. I don't know what the tab notation is for triplets so I made up something that sort of makes sense.

Any corrections appreciated (especially the Jam part).

gcom007, thanks for pointing that out.

That is, everyone is going to have their own way of playing it especially since Dave himself has changed the way he plays it quite dramatically.

I guess buy corrections I mean finding something insultingly bad sounding. Or another thing is describing your own variations to the different parts.

I'm wondering about the tab in this post...I'm not sure it's lined up right because certain parts seem wrong from just looking at it but kinda right...

After looking at Catherine's tab I'm more confident about some notes in the tab since she's using the same chords even though I was already pretty confident from watching the video. The interlude is basically the same as the Jam part in my post, same chords used, that's good news. I prefer the Virgin megastore Jam/interlude arrangement though :D it has a bit more variety from the rest of the song.

I used to really suck at picking out strumming pattern and timing and learning Dave has really helped me improve that. But I'm still improving so if there are any errors in the timing please explain. Dave is the master of rhythm, and rhythm is usually what makes or breaks a Dave song so I want to make it as clear as possible.

For those who might not be certain: the numbers (1 to 4) below each line of tab represents the beat. (For those with classical notation background, each group of 4 could be a quarter note so each number has the timing of a sixteenth note). If this was a strummed song instead of fingerpicking, the 1's and 3's represent downstrums while 2's and 4's represent upstrums. Except in the case of triplets, in which case I don't know how they should be strummed without throwing off the timing. But it's safe here since it's fingerpicked.
