New to this board, Question..

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

New to this board, Question..

Unread post by Riviern2 » Mon Apr 25, 2011 5:40 pm

Hello all,

i'm new to this board, and very excited that i found this. I'm a fan of Dave Matthews, i wouldn't say he's my favorite artist but i have much respect for him and his abilities to play guitar like he does. I know how difficult his songs are to play by just looking at his tabs and of course by listening. A little about me, im 23 i've been playing the guitar for over a year now, started lessons feb 2010. Since then i have played and practiced the guitar just about every single day. I'm very ambitious with playing and i'm striving to be the best. I don't want to be just ok, or average at guitar. Id consider myself better than most that have been playing for a year just because of the time and dedication i've put in. I own two guitars my first guitar i've had for 6-7 years an Alverez RD8 and recently purchased a Taylor 314ce. I want to start learning how to play Dave Matthews because i know it will make me much better of a guitarist. My question to you is what songs would you suggest i start with? I'd like to see a top 5 list possibly. Songs that can ease me into his style. I've tried playing Crash Into Me awhile ago, but i stopped because my fingers just killed me. Any suggestions would be awesome. Thank you guys!!

In terms of technicality:
1) The Stone
2) Satellite
3) Drive in Drive Out
4) So Much to Say
5) What would you say

In terms of easing into his style:
1) Ants Marching
2) #41
3) Don't Drink the Water/Bartender
4) Grey Street
5) Warehouse

I'd add Two Step to the "easing into his style" category. It's not difficult but uses almost all "Dave" chords.
