You and Me

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

You and Me

Unread post by Warehouse41Ant » Mon Feb 08, 2010 7:27 pm

I've done some searching, but I can't seem to get a good handle on how You and Me is played live. I don't believe Dave is playing the standard tab that you find everywhere, although I could be wrong. Can't seem to find a great tab on it though. Has anyone figured out what the live version is, or am I just wrong?

This is what I see. There's a little hammer off from a C note to a D note on the breakdown that wasn't on the tab earlier.

Damn, dude above me has it perfect. That is the first time I've seen it tabbed like that on here. The one that is posted in the Big Whiskey thread is wrong, in my opinion. Though I do disagree with this one part, ndfilth. I adjusted it to the way I play it. I fucked up the alignment a bit but it is still readable:

Code: Select all

|---------------------|---------------|---------------|---------------|
|---------------------|---------------|---------------|---------------|
|--------------5------|--------5h7----|--------5------|--------5h7----|
|-3--5---------5------|--------5h7----|--------5------|--------5h7----|
|-x--x--3p0-----------|-3p0-----------|-3p0-----------|-3p0-----------|
|-1--3----------------|---------------|---------------|---------------|
From watching the video from the Grammy's, that is what I came up with. That is only part where I differ, and I could very well be wrong.

When Dave plays it live, he strums the verse a little more than he did in the studio. You could see it during the performance at the Grammies. He probably just throws a few mutes in there like this:

Code: Select all

Intro/Verse
|--------------------------------------------------------|
|--------------------------------------------------------|
|---xx2xx2xx2xx4xx2xx4xx2x0---xx2xx2xx2xx4xx2xx4xx2x0----|
|---xx4xx4xx4xx5xx4xx5xx4x0---xx4xx4xx4xx5xx4xx5xx4x0----|
|--------------------------------------------------------|
|--3-------------------------0---------------------------|

Yes, that is worth noting for those who didn't notice. I was already playing it like this just because it is easier to keep the rhythm, and that is something Dave loves to do also so I'm not surprised.

Yes! Absolutely right, thanks for pointing that out. I forgot to change that when I quoted the first guy. I updated my post.

Sorry, just needed to fix this for myself.

This to me is a really hard song to play. Out of all the new songs this is the one by far that gives me the most trouble.

As far as technical difficulty, I found it pretty par for the course as far as Dave songs go. Nothing really new or difficult that hasn't been seen before in 10 other songs. As for figuring out what the correct way to play it is, it was one of the more difficult ones to finally figure out. I think we have it now though...

Its got something to do with the rhythm of the verse. I can play it fine, but when I start to throw the mutes in there it all goes to hell.

After playing this song for a while I have 1 correction I'd like to make. During the bridge/jam section, play this once:

Code: Select all

|---------------------|---------------|---------------|---------------|
|---------------------|---------------|---------------|---------------|
|--------------5------|--------5h7----|--------5------|--------5h7----|
|-3--5---------5------|--------5h7----|--------5------|--------5h7----|
|-x--x--3p0-----------|-3p0-----------|-3p0-----------|-3p0-----------|
|-1--3----------------|---------------|---------------|---------------|X1
followed by this:

Code: Select all

|---------------------|---------------|---------------------------|
|---------------------|---------------|---------------------------|
|--------------5------|--------5h7----|-6-------------------------|
|-3--5---------5------|--------5h7----|---------------------------|
|-x--x--3p0-----------|-3p0-----------|---------------------------|
|-1--3----------------|---------------|-5-------------------------|-> chorus
