So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

off the top of my head, it's more like this:
verse
Am C Em G

Am C G G/F#

Chorus
D G Em A

after listening to the solo version from last night at MSG, i'm gonna venture a makeshift tab for most of the song. it's not completely correct as there is one phrase that i am not getting the right progression, but here's what i got.

Code: Select all

Dive In
Dave Matthews (solO)

Intro (repeat a few times)

E:---------------
B:---1--1-----1--
G:---2--2-----0--
D:---2--2-----2--
A:---------2--3--
E:---------------

Verse (there is a secondary verse that I haven't quite figured out yet, used at the end of this on some of the lyrical lines before coming back to this)

E:------------------3--
B:---1--1-----1-----0--
G:---2--2-----0-----0--
D:---2--2-----2--2--0--
A:---------2--3--2--2--
E:------------------3--

when leading into next lyric/line of verse, walk down from the G on the top string

E:------------------3-----
B:---1--1-----1-----0-----
G:---2--2-----0-----0-----
D:---2--2-----2--2--0-----
A:---------2--3--2--2-----
E:------------------3--2--

Chorus (some combination of D G Em A, drop down to non-barre chords if need be)

E:---5--3--7--5--
B:---3--3--8--5--
G:---0--4--9--6--
D:---4--5--9--7--
A:---5--5--7--7--
E:------3-----5--

Breakdown "One day, do you think we'll wake up"

E:------------3--
B:---1--1--1--0--
G:---2--2--0--0--
D:---3--2--2--0--
A:---------3--2--
E:------------3--

(barre Fmaj could be used for the first chord)

the bridge is F, Am, C, G

He must be doing a different variation down the neck. But at the end he moves back to basic chords up on the neck.
