Please help me with The Stone
Please help me with The Stone
Hi, I know how to play the song, I just can't do it quick enough (i have some problems with this song on the right hand), is it because i don' use a pick? I never use a pick, it only slows me down more, no matter what the song is... do you know any practices? My fingers always look like I have a pick in my hand if that's the problem (if you can picture it)
thx

I cant imagine playing that song without a pick, you need to be able to do the back and forth quick picking on the same string.
And how does a pick exactly slow you down? I (and most everyone) use one without problem.

I started off not using a pick and eventually started. As far as strumming or precise picking with only your hand goes you should place your hands as if you have a pick in your hands. Then strum with the nail of your index finger as if it were a pick. This gives you a much more pick-like sound and allows you to alternate pick.d.m.b41 wrote:Hi, I know how to play the song, I just can't do it quick enough (i have some problems with this song on the right hand), is it because i don' use a pick? I haven't used a pick in at least 5 years. It slowed me down as well. Don't change your style because someone says you need to.

I do EXACTLY this for almost 5 years and it's worked perfectly for me, except in this casegunnar1104 wrote: I started off not using a pick and eventually started. Re: Please help me with The Stone
grow your nail out more so its more like a pick... to be honest no to belittle kahns statement , as i believe the same, there are some cases in which you just cant do something one way or the other... bass players have to use a pick to get certain sounds they just cant get out of their fingers (some dont need the sound and never use one) ... drummers sometimes have to adopt a double bass pedal in order to play cleanly at ridiculous speeds.. and some songs just need a pick...
i would say keep at it the way you know how to play, maybe try to grow out the nail a little more so you can use some alternate picking techniques.. keep practicing..

or .. change the feel of the song a little... play it the way you can... you might be pleasantly surprised ... but yeah to perfectly emulate a song... you need to play it the same way.. i.e. a pick.. good luck in however you approach it... and if you need tips on either way specifically.. there may be some advice here for ya

Re: Please help me with The Stone
i never use a pick ever as well and although it may not sound exactly how dave plays it, what i do is just skip one of the 5's on the D string and just let it ring rather than trying to do the quick alternating picking and then for the 2-3-2 i never really looked at exactly what i do but u could possibly try a hammer-on there instead of the quick picking again. just an idea
