Warehouse intro

I've been playing guitar for almost 8 years and i think that i'm pretty decent, but for some reason the intro/main riff in warehouse is giving me problems. I can make it sound good playing for a friend or someone who doesn't know much about guitar playing, but to my ears i hear every little difference between my playing and dave's. Anyways i guess my question is can anyone give me some tips on how to accurately mute strings and play this riff correctly? Like i said, i'm very close but i think that i'm having problems with the muting because i notice alot of extra string noise that i'm having trouble correcting. Thanks!

What I do when i'm playing the first part of the riff (the 7 9 11) is mute the G B and E strings with my pinky, just hang my pinky over those string so when I accidentally hit them they don't ring out (remember, you don't want to hit the notes precisely, you want it to be very percussive - move your pick over like two or three strings instead of just one).
On the next part of the riff, I let my index finger mute the B and E strings. This part is kind of tricky for me because I have to keep the wide strumming near the bottom strings so I don't hit the low E string.

Thats pretty much how i've been trying to do it... when i slow it down and analyze the whole riff in slow motion i can get it to sound good but when i go to regular speed something is ringing. The first part of the riff i have down, but on the second part of it, i think i might be accidentally fretting something on the B string when i'm trying to mute. Thanks for the help and great video. I guess i just need to practice it some more.

That's the most accurate video I've seen of how the song actually sounds. Are you always using an up and down stroke or do you play two down strokes on the notes that are only hit once like I have below, this is the part that is making it tough for me to learn... I think you are doing a down/up for the first 7,9,11,7 then down on 9,10 then a few clicks then down/up on 7,9,11,7,9, 10 then down on 9,7... is that right?

Doesn't look like the video is showing up now, but I keep a downstroke-upstroke pattern going throughout the main riff to help myself keep time (i.e. 'wreckless mind, don't throw away your playful beginnings' etc.). I think it's a 16th note pattern (4 notes per beat). It's good to play this pattern so you don't have to worry about when to play an up-beat or down-beat. I don't know how helpful that is. I don't know how clear that is - If you need more clarification just ask me.
