So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

ok we all know how dave is notorious for having funky chords and rhythm throughout his songs but does he follow fairly simple chord progressions as well? usualy i can pick out the progressions but when u have chords like the tripping billies intro/ captian verse thrown in there then im totally lost. does anybody know?

Random movie quote to make you seem hip and "with it": There are five different types of chairs in this hotel room.

The Tripping Billies riff (or Grey Street) isn't all that weird or complex in the context of chord theory. Both simply follow the chord formula you'd derive from the D major scale.

I wouldn't say so, he doesn't really use any "progressions" at all, most of his songs are riff based.
Sometimes when I reflect on all the beer I drink I feel ashamed. Then I look into the glass and think about the workers in the brewery and all of their hopes and dreams. If I didn't drink this beer, they might be out of work and their dreams would be shattered. I think, "It is better to drink this beer and let their dreams come true than be selfish and worry about my liver.

And those chords aren't weird chords, either. They're just weird voicings. The chord in the billies intro is just a regular a chord, for example.
