newbie question

All that means is to either hold the note or to add vibrato (shake the note up and down, like small bends up and down). For an example of vibrato listen to Warren's solos on Cortez The Killer on Central Park.

there should be a different symbol for holding the note and vibrato. I didn't even know it could mean holding the note! ahah

Most of the time you come across it it'll mean vibrato.
