Need help with the changes on the chorus of #41

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

I have a comment as I see lot of questions like this regarding chord changes and timing. Why is it so hard to pick up chord changes? Can't you just listen to the song and hear them? I mean if one is actually talented enough to pull off the stretch in #41, I would think they could figure out the chorus chord changes, no? Please don't take this the wrong way; it just seems odd to me...

it's hard for some of us to hear chord changes. i am fairly decent on the guitar but i have very little musical talent, and my ear is not what most would call good. so sometimes hearing changes is very difficult. i wish i could just turn on a song and hear them, and often times i can but there are definitely times where my ear just can't pick them up. hopefully, practice will help. we'll see though.

I realized that one of the chords is named wrong. Plus, without coding it, it will line up weird.

Code: Select all

First Chorus

I will go.....in this..................way and find my own way
G.............F#/D.....................C.......C..............

out..I won't......tell you......what to be but I'm coming too much more
G.................F#/D..........C..................C...................

Second Chorus

I wouldnt.........pass this.........by and I wouldn't take more than I
G.................F#/D..............C........C........................

Need, what sort of.....man goes.......by, I will bring you water
G......................F#/D...........C..........C..............

Why wont you ever be...glad melts into...wonder i came in praying for
G......................F#/D..............C........C..................

You, Why wont you..run into the rain and..play and let tears splash all
G..................F#/D...................C............C....

over you

The best way to hear chord changes is to sing along with a song. If you are singing the notes, and the chords sound funny with them, then you know you are playing the wrong chord. That is the point of having different chords, so you can sing different notes during a song.

Yeah thats a good way of explaining it Billy :) I don't see the big problem with chord changes either , but sometimes it does require you to give it a good listen ....

Another way that can make it simple to hear the changes is to gently down strum the guitar in a continuing pattern , then when those notes sounds off you know its time to change .... Same way as Billy explained it only with the guitar and not your voice :)

I could see where chord changes could be hard to pick up on songs with the full DMB, but listen to the L@LC version of #41 and you really can't miss 'em. Good luck!

Yeah, overall the best way to learn any song, or any parts of songs, are to listen to the solo or acoustic versions of them, where the band isn't overpowering the guitar.

:D No pun taken. Try spending four years in the Marines stuck in a weapons turret and see how great your hearing is. Also it can be hard to tell the changes when Tim is playing with Dave.
