Dave Bleeding on Guitar
This is from the Winter 2002 issue of Wood and Steel Magazine put out by Taylor Guitars. The article is partially about a custom baritone guitar that Dave ordered from Taylor:
"An aggressive player, Matthews says he's still a little reluctant to really dig-in on the baritone, like he does on the 714, as evidenced by the wear-and-tear in the cedar top above the soundhole.
'I bled all over that one too, at last year's Bridge benefit show. It was great.'..."
So, if any of you bleed on your guitar from playing so hard, maybe that's a good thing!

Some people get by the pain fast , but some people end up with serious damages , so an advice like saying KEEP PLAYING KEEP PLAYING is not always smart , its all up to you whether you decide to keep playing or take a break ....dreudown wrote:one of the few things I remember my piano teacher saying was:
"no pain no gain does not apply to music. if you ever feel any pain at all,
don't play until the pain is gone"
so is it okay to keep playing even when your fingers start hurting real bad or will that cause more damage in the long run?
I myself keep playing because im one of those that get rid of the pain as soon as i put down the guitar , same as typing on a keyboard all day can give you cramps , but 2 minutes later i feel fine , but i would agree with your piano teacher .... Playing music is supposed to be fun , not painful , so just watch out , you do not wanna get serious hand damages

let me start by saying this is a pretty funny thread.....
but seriously, every day is different....somedays you pick up the guitar and your fingers fly across the frets, other days you can't switch chords without getting confused....this never ends, no matter how long you've been playing....my theory has always been, the days my fingers aren't listening to my head, i put the guitar down.....but thats just my thought....keep playing fun, don't let it get frustrating.....

What if the fun overrides the pain? Haha that's what happened to me I think, and I was just like, "hmmm, stop playing? hell no"DustyDave wrote:...Playing music is supposed to be fun , not painful , so just watch out...

I have an collection of aloe plants in my music room and whenever i feel a sore coming on, just pick a leaf, squeeze the juice out and rub it in, two minutes later that callase is as good as new!

guess it depends where the pain is coming from. if its just muscle pain or finger tip pain than keep playing, but if its like joint pain or weird internal pains than it's probably wise to tone it down a notch. but yeah I bleed sometimes when I play long and hard. my right index fingertip becomes part of the pick. it gives it a cool sound when your get your fingernail/finger tip into the strings when strumming. fun stuff

good, and you?
