basic dave guitar question about muting and strumming
ok so i don't get how he does it. i'm trying to play seek up and minarets... and i don't see how he can play only 3 strings and make it sound so full... does he mute all the other strings with his left or right hand? does he strum all 6 strings with the rest muted or is he so good that he only actually hits the 3 he's playing? are there any closeup videos of his right hand playing? any pointers? i'm new to dave and also to playing his songs... everythign else i play are pretty straight forward in terms of chords, so i'm like blown away.

Dave uses a lot of palm muting, but what I do for minarets is I mute the bottom three strings with my left fretting hand and try to strum only the top three with my right strumming hand. After a while you'll find yourself only hitting the top three strings and occaisionally hitting the G string, but as long as its muted your fine. You'll get the hang of it after a while.

Re: basic dave guitar question about muting and strumming
he def. uses a lot of palm muting. and if you've figured tablature out(unless you can read music) then any of the strings he is not actually hitting a note on then chance are he is muting it with his fretting hand(left hand).vinestreet98 wrote:ok so i don't get how he does it. i'm trying to play seek up and minarets... and i don't see how he can play only 3 strings and make it sound so full... does he mute all the other strings with his left or right hand? does he strum all 6 strings with the rest muted or is he so good that he only actually hits the 3 he's playing? are there any closeup videos of his right hand playing? any pointers? i'm new to dave and also to playing his songs... everythign else i play are pretty straight forward in terms of chords, so i'm like blown away.
if you play around with a lot of palm muting and fretting hand muting then i think you'll start noticing the "dave" sounding .......uh, sound

good luck and have plenty of fun.
