Hardest Song?

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

Hardest Song?

Unread post by Task » Fri Oct 04, 2002 2:04 am

Ok, we all know that Dave is a madman. Brought to this planet to make us all feel like amateurs. Or was it that he was just brought here to make me feel like an amateur?

Anyway...

What do you consider to be his most difficult song. (To play AND sing.) Anyone can beat the instrument until it plays right (and your fingers fall off).

Play AND Sing?

My vote, hands down.. The Stone.. I mean for crying out loud, what f#cking planet was he on when he came up with that?

The Stone is my favourite song to sing and play. Keep practicing. It's worth it.

Even Dave has problems with Dreams Of Our Fathers.

I'm gonna say #41, the way Dave plays it. How he switches between those intro chords so fast is way beyond me.

The Stone is also impossible to sing and play. Dave is crazy.

I find his cover of "Is Chicago, Is Not Chicago" to be pretty hard to play and sing at the same time. Other than that, "Warehouse" and "Lie in Our Graves" give me trouble.

Hey I'm kinda new (only had the guitar for about a year) so I'm not even gonna waste your time with the songs I have a hard time with. Anyways I've had trouble singing and playing pretty much anything, I can do the choruses to Jimi Thing and Satellite, but is there something you guys could suggest I start with or maybe you have some pointers? Thanks...

Levi, the main thing is just playing the guitar part enough where your hands are on auto-pilot. That way you're just thinking about the words, and not the music. A lot of it is just practice.

id have to say the stone is my hardest. there are parts of other songs that get me, like teh nature intro to tripping billies, and the last chord change in teh main riff of captain. fingers arent supposed to move like that :D

Hey everybody! I'm new to the site but I have been playing the guitar by ear for 8 years. I can play and sing most any Dave song (I'm the biggest Dave nut) the way dave sings and plays it.

Anyway, the hardest to sing and play (?) well I will just say the ones that took me the longest to get down pat:
tripping billies has a taugh rythmn to play during the verses.
the stone took me a little time but is a breeze once you get the 6/8 timing stuck in your head and you fingers to get down the crazy bridge.
satellite took me some time to get to sing fluently.
is chicago, is not chicago has no real standards for singing (fitting those words in can be hard.
the live intro to one sweet whirled is strange because it switches to notes you would never expect to hear but sounds good when yoyu play it.
heathcliff's haiku warriors is a challenge.
grace is gone (lillywhite) because he throws in those little changes at uncomfortable to play times.

But keep in mind that any and all Dave songs can be beaten down with practice!

(this site rules and I hope to be contributing tabs when the option is avaliable in the -i hope to be- near future)

I dont know if its me, but The Stone is a breeze for me to play and sing, I can even have a intelligent conversation while unconsciously playing it, I dont know, its extremely easy for me to play. Funnest I'd say Trippin Billies, hardest..... Hmmm, YNK.

To all of you who insist that the Stone is easy...

I salute you, for you are far more talented than I am.

Well.. I've been playing "The Stone" for about a week now. I was impossible when I started but thanks to the TAB here I've found it a alot easier to get through.

The bridge is giving me a little trouble. But if you are having trouble with it just keep at it. It gets better..

Now on to Tripping billies.. Good lord, what a stretch..

I have been playing guitar for about 2 years now, I got The Stone down, it took some time but I got it, and once you got it, you got it. The hardest for me is the One Sweet world intro, (because there is so many different tabs for it... anyone have what they think is the right one?) Tripping Billies because of the stretch, and the stop time Warehouse.
Its cold as hell outside
But our fire is bright
And in your eyes
I can see what is on my mind
You got me wild
Turned around inside

LOL What a stretch is right@! I've been at Trippin Billies since this site came up with the video and I got a copy of Storytellers. I think that with the rythm of the verse its especially hard to play. I don't think that The Stone is tough to sing and play once you can play it blind folded and drunk. I find that when you can play a song in your sleep, the singing just begs to come out and does easily. The nature intro is so fun though! hey, does anybody love playing and singing jimi thing as much as me?? ok, easiest song to sing and play, by far: Halloween. ? yes, i'd say. this site rules/!!!!
