About time signatures....

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

About time signatures....

Unread post by cmcdmb » Wed Nov 13, 2002 8:01 am

Man can Dave and the boys make you work for your money. I always love it when dmb creates a song with an odd time signature, it really shows talent and maturity. For those new guitarts out there, a time signature is basically the underlying "time" as it were, when a particular part of a song repeats. Most songs are in 4/4, 4 beats a measure, each beat a 1/4 note. But sometimes dave will go crazy and make parts in 6/8 or 5/4 or the seldom 7/8. Rapunzel has in fact parts in 5/4, 3/4, 4/4, and 7/8...all of which help the funkiness.
anyway i just wanted to talk about You Never Know: have you guys tried counting the time signature of the verse? its crazy, its 3 5/8 parts and a 6/8 part, so the whole verse is in like 21/8...its crazy
the other parts are wholly 6/8

man i love dmb...and i love guitar!
