Taking a stab at Break Free

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

Taking a stab at Break Free

Unread post by CrashDMB237 » Wed Jun 14, 2006 2:14 pm

Alrite I've never even attempted to tab something out, so sorry if its not 100% correct or looks like shit. I know its on the baritone, but here it is in Drop D for people like me who only have an acoustic and are too lazy to change to baritone tuning.

Edit:

Wow that formatting was all fucked up. I guess I couldn't copy and paste my post from Ants. Here's an Ants link:

Here's what I got:

Drop D:

Code: Select all

Break Free
Drop D Tuning

E------------------------------------------
B------------------------------------------
G------------------------------------------
D----------------------------------(2)-----
A-----5--4-----4h5p4---4----4--2----2--0---
D--0--------4--------7----2-------2--------

"I'll drink your poison if you fill the cup..."
E--------------------
B--------------------
G--------------------
D--7----7----7----4--
A--7----7----7----4--
D--7----6----5----4--

Then, for the third measure (I think the placement of this part may change as the song advances), play this:
E-----------------------------------
B-----------------------------------
G-----------------------------------
D--7----7----7----------------------
A--7----7----7-------------0--2--4--
D--7----6----5----2--4--5-----------

"But the way she loves me..."
E---------------------------------------------------------------
B----------------2----------------------------------------------
G----------------2----------------------------------------------
D----------------2------------------4------------------2--hold--
A--5--4----2--0--0----5--4----2--0--4----5--4----2--0--2--------
D-----------------------------------4------------------2--------

Lead into "Drink your poison..."
-This lead in takes the place of the Amaj chord. (So start with 4x222-)

E----------------
B----------------
G----------------
D----------------
A--5--4----2--0--
D----------------

Breakdown/Jam

The progression is D - F#m - G - D-A
Experiment with different variations of the chords. Also, Dave doesn't hit that last A chord. He just stays on the D. (Upon second listen, he might hit the A chord occasionaly) I think it sounds better if you include that pulse of the A chord.

Once again, fill this out by playing full chords and whatnot. Dave has a band backing him, so he doesn't really need to, but Joe Shmoe with an acoustic guitar might want to spice it up a bit.

E------------------------
B------------------------
G------------------------
D--0----4----5----0--7*--
A--0----4----5----0--7---
D--0----4----5----0--7---

*Not played by Dave.

And Standard:

Code: Select all

Break Free

E------------------------------------------
B------------------------------------------
G------------------------------------------
D----------------------------------(2)-----
A-----5--4-----4h5p4---4----4--2----2--0---
E--x--------2--------5----0-------0--------

"I'll drink your poison if you fill the cup..."
E--------------------
B--2----2----2-------
G--2----2----2-------
D--2----2----2----4--
A--0----x----x----4--
E-------4----3----2--

Then, for the third measure, play this:
E-----------------------------------
B--2----2----2----------------------
G--2----2----2----------------------
D--2----2----2----------------------
A--0----x----x----------------2--4--
E-------4----3----0--2--4--5--------

"But the way she loves me..."
E---------------------------------------------------------------
B----------------2----------------------------------------------
G----------------2-------------------------------------1--------
D----------------2------------------4------------------2--hold--
A--5--4----2--0--0----5--4----2--0--4----5--4----2--0--2--------
E-----------------------------------2------------------0--------

Lead into "Drink your poison..."
-This lead in takes the place of the Amaj chord. (So start with 4x222-)

E----------------
B----------------
G----------------
D----------------
A--5--4----2--0--
E----------------

Breakdown/Jam

The progression is D - F#m - G - D-A
Since Dave plays this in a different tuning, it's impossible to be completely accurate. Just experiment with different variations of the chords. Also, Dave doesn't hit that last A chord. He just stays on the D. (I think it sounds better if you include that pulse of the A chord.

E--2----2----3----2--------
B--3----2----0----3----2*--
G--2----2----0----2----2---
D--0----4----0----0----2---
A-------4----2---------0---
E-------2----3-------------

*Not played by Dave.

I think playing a 2 on the A string is easier than a 7 on the low D in the verse. But a great job as usual Pat.

it is... but its not a 2 on the A-string... remeber that tab is in drop d.. which makes a 7 on E an open A... just play it 4/5\4 0 4
