don't emphasize the slides... they are brief and only used to 'connect the dots'

Practice. I don't think there is an easy way around that one.

Yeah man, you can get all the tips in the world, it's still not going to make you learn it any quicker.....practice; plain and simple.

I love muting, back when I first started trying to mute I would just play Minarets and match Dave's strum he would do. Which is just muting. You can make up your own counts/beat or whatever you want to call it to get better muting.

dave uses ALOT of brief stutter mutes on the bass strings as basic timing fills. just the basic right hand mute with a heavy pick attack. they are rhythmic, not emphasized. they really help keep timing down while singing.

w/ WWYS, worry about the rhythm. with practice, the riff will become fluid and you'll wonder what the trouble was. keep at it

Practice it at a slower tempo until you can play it cleanly. Then do it faster.

Make sure your hands are relax as you go faster (specially your right hand).

My biggest issue is nailing that first chord in the jam. I can usually get it, but if I fuck up that's where.
