Help with LIOG jam

Unread post by Gombo » Wed May 14, 2003 11:48 pm

I'm having a problem getting a full sound when playing the jam. Since I'm only playing two strings and muting the rest is sounds like very weak. It sounds like, well, a two string chord. I believe a real chord needs at least three notes theoretically. How does everyone else play this? I have a Martin HD-28V so it's sure not the guitar. It's definitely the player. This might not make too much sense but could somebody help me?

I made a recording of this a while ago, if you think it would help at all let me know.

Are you only really only playing two strings or are you getting sound from some others?

this is the way i've always played it. it's fuller than the versions i've seen out
and sounds good solo
E-----------------------------------------------------------
B--7-------5-------3----------------------------------------
G--7-------6-------4------4--6------------------------------
D--x-------x-------x------x--x------------------------------
A--5-------4-------2------2--4------------------------------
E-------------------------3--5------------------------------

this is the faster part
E-----------------------------------------------------------
B--7-------2-------2----------------------------------------
G--9-------4-------2------2--x------------------------------
D--9-------4-------2------0--0------------------------------
A--8-------3-------0------x--2------------------------------
E-------------------------2--3------------------------------

do you think i should submit this as an alternate jam?

Actually, I think I am talking about the wrong jam. I was referring to the First Small Jam part, not the Long Jam part. But as for the long jam part yes you only play two strings and it sounds fine but you can add a note to it to make it sound fuller if you want. Kinda like this:

Code: Select all

E:-------------------------
B:-------------------------
G:-11---9---7---4---4---6--
D:-x----x---x---x---x---x--
A:-9----7---5---2---2---4--
E:-10---9---7---3---3---5--
And Im sure you can figure out how to alter the other chords in the other jam parts. This is NOT how Dave plays it but it can help to make it sound fuller when playing solo. Hope that helps.

Or you could play it that other way (it was posted as I was typing my response so I didnt see it) but it gets farther away from the actual version. Whichever sounds better though I guess. Ill stick with the actual way but whatever :D

just play the power chords
--------------------------------------------------------------------------|
----------------------1--1-1--1--1-1--3--3-3--3--3-3----------------------|
-7--7--7-x--5--7-x-x--2--2-2--2--2-2--4--4-4--4--4-4--5--5-5/4-4--4--4-4--|
-7--7--7-x--5--7-x-x--2--2-2--2--2-2--4--4-4--4--4-4--5--5-5/4-4--4--4-4--|
-5--5--5-x--3--5-x-x--0--0-0--0--0-0--2--2-2--2--2-2--3--3-3/2-2--2--2-2--|
--------------------------------------------------------------------------|
Sorry about that. Yeah, I'm talking about the long jam. I would like to play it the correct way. When I play the 10th and 12th fret stuff it sounds thin for some reason. I guess it's just me.

Thanks

anywho, i'm just trying to help you out. i play both those parts and they sound better solo to me. also i don't understand how to do the code shit either, i do my tabs with msnotepad and then copy and paste them. i hit code before i paste and then code after it so if i'm doing it wrong any help would be greatly appreciated. i've submitted tabs that are up and most of them look like doodoo stain, kinda like what what i just posted, so if you can tell me what i'm doing wrong i can fix them. danka.
