Two Step

Unread post by Taylor2885 » Sun Apr 30, 2006 3:57 pm

having trouble with the rhythm of two step ... not really sure why. It's obviously almost impossible to explain rhythm over posts but I was wondering if anybody has any tips.

I only really have trouble on the rhythm part on the first chord.

E:-----
B:-----
G:-10-
D:-x--
A:-8--
E:-10--

Just not clicking for me, i have the rest of the song down, but everytime I get back to that initial chord the rhythm throws me off. I can play it it's just not exact. Any advice or tips would be appreciated

here is an old beauty. tie something around the neck. this mutes all the strings and takes out the left hand. VWOLLA you have a percussive instrment. now play twostep bearing in mind you only have the rythem to play with and when it fits (sounds ok) then its right.

You're fucked if you want to play open strings, oh yeah, and more technique in your fingers.

Listener Supported is a great vid for Two Step. Learn the song lyrically front and back and then learn the chords and then watch the video and try and mimic dave until you actually are mimicing him. Everything requires work and dedication.

There are two ways that I play it:

1. Muted on 1st and 2nd stroke up and down the on 3rd stroke fret the chord

2. Hit the top 1-2 strings then hit the last 2 strings to start each new chord

Code: Select all

    1 & 2 & 3 & 4 &

E|--------------------------------
B|--------------------------------
G|-----10--10--10--10--10--10--10--
D|-----x---x---x---x---x---x---x---
A|-----8---8---8---8---8---8---8---
E|-10-----10---10--10--10--10--10--
Sometimes he does it this way or he'll do 2 quick ones after the first one so the counting would go:

1 e and 2 e and 3 e and 4 e and

As far as rhythm, you play the 108x10 for four counts, then 87x9 for four counts and 31x3 for 8 counts.

I don't have my guitar handy as I am at work but try doing that. I will repost once I get home and can play my feet.

It's all a matter of practice.

Sometimes I find it useful to try hard for a song and then put it aside for a week. When I get back to it I'm a lot better.

Good luck man.
