DMBTabs.com FAQ

Unread post by jkanter » Mon May 05, 2003 9:27 am

With the site re-design getting pushed back a week(actually finished layout stuff last night but waiting so I can finish content) to allow for maximum additions to the site...I wanted to get all your opinions on what should be added to the sites FAQ. Here is what I have so far, it's not a lot, but that's why I'm asking you guys.....also, some of these things may seem extremely easy(like Drop D and reading tabs) but these are ALL things I have gotten e-mails about.......lemme know:

How to View Video's
How to Read Tabs
How to re-tune to Busted Stuff
How to re-tune to Drop-D
How to re-tune to 1/2 step down
How to re-tune to Raised B(you can't and tells how to re-string..gauges and stuff)
How to re-tune to Baritone(you can't....read standard tabs)
Easiest DMB Song to Play

Off the top of my head that's most of what I can think of. I am asking you guys to think of different questions that get asked a lot and that we can put in there. Thanks in advance....peace

What guitars does dave use?
Where can I find Bass tabs, Violin Tabs, etc.?
What key is _________ in?
What is a capo and how do I use it?
Does Dave use a pick? What kind? What songs does he fingerpick?
What songs does he use a 12-string/Baritone/Drop-D tuned/Raised-B tuned/etc. guitar for?
Will winglet82 make out with me?

Those are questions I get all the time. Especially the last one.

Seriously, though those seem to be the ones surfacing on most message boards. People also have some Tim questions, so you may/may not want to add them too.

First of all, great idea with the tunings....here are a couple things i think are asked alot on the boards:

1. Dave's guitars

2. Good songs for particular playing style (good fingerpicking songs, good basic chord songs, good strumming songs, good single-note picking songs, etc.)

I'll think of some more :?

No such thing as extremely easy Jkanter , i think that all those topics should be covered , and not everyone knows how to tune down to Drop D so its all good :)

One thing though .... Its hard to say things such as " Whats the easiest DMB song to play " its all different from the individual player , as we don't all learn stuff the same way , but nevermind me i just wanted to point that out :)

Don't forget :

Divx / Codec " What is it and where do i get it " for the videos
Daves Equipment in general ( Setup )
Tutorial Link
DMB Biography
Tour Info

And some ducktape for wiglet82's mouth  j/k

I'll post again when i can think of something a little more creative , but right now im hungry , tired , and im mumbling so i'll get back to this topic as soon as i think of anything new :)

It also seems like some certain songs are brought up a lot. Such as "Crash" strumming, the chord changes in "Crush," Up/Down strumming for "Stone," strumming for "Two Step," anything about "#41" .

Also, you could give a quick explanation that a lot of the album versions of songs are very different from the live versions. I think this can confuse people when they try to play along with the albums.

Yeah good points Billy , i know there has been put so much work into the tabs on this site and it totally rocks , but maybe there should be added a Up / Down strumming note below the tab so we can avoid all those questions about it ?

Just an idea anyway

yeah, but it would take a long time to do every song, which is why i suggested those particulars

Yeah it would take a long time , but who says it has to be done all in one night eh ? Take a little at a time , all the tabs weren't put up on one day in the first place

First off....great site...my hats off to you

Knowing Dave's guitars would be great, but i think we could figure that out from a few video's....if you could get his full setup (amps and effects) that would be awesome...I've looked around but haven't found any hard facts...

Also, you might want to zoom out on the tab videos and include your right hand...personally, dave's left hand work is pretty easy to duplicate...its the strumming that really gives the song its feeling and sound...

GOOD LUCK TO YOU....

up/down tabbing would take a long time and would not be nearly as accurate as this DVD jkanter is working on, or the videos or just listening to the song. I really see no worth for up/down tabbing.

just because you have the up/down doesnt mean youre going to be able to strum it right. speed matters too.
