I am a fairly experienced guitar player, i've been listening to dave since august when i was given "under the table and dreaming" from my girlfriend ( she's from indiana, unfortunately i live in Norway, so things arent working out all that well).
Anyway, I can play and sing the likes of WWYS, Stone, Ants Marching, Tripping Billies. My guitar is an Ibanez AW100CE, which is all right. I had to get the action adjusted because it was so high. Still, i would like a more full and proper sound to my guitar playing. Been looking around the net for different Morgan and Taylor guitars, they seem to be the "right stuff" these days. Just wondered if anyone has any advice on which of these guitars are suitable. I am looking for a plain accoustic, no electrics. The one Dave plays in Storytellers/Charlie Rose show (The Stone) - just makes my mouth water... Obviously i am not going to spend 3000 dollars on a guitar either. I am a student after all..
cheers

which guitar is the best? what to buy?
I play a martin d-18. I just like the deep bass ressonance. If i were to ever switch it would be to a taylor but it's hard to get a good taylor under 2000 bucks. In my opinion sound and playability are the most important thing, and martin's in my opinion are the easiest to play next to taylor's. I am a student as well so i know how hard it is to find money to spend, but to quote a man named Ken(a.k.a. Gravedigger), " That's what student loans are for."

I have a Taylor 310, which is the cheapest full sized guitar (they have baby guitars too) that Taylor makes. I had an old Sigma that I paid a friend $100 for before the Taylor and the action on it was so high that my fingers would regularly bleed. Now that I have the Taylor the action is much better and the sound quality is great. It lists for $1200, and usually sells for around $900-$1000. I ended up getting a great deal because of a tagging error that the store ended up honoring (brand new for $760!). I don't personally think you need to spend over $2000 bucks for a good sounding Taylor, but that is a matter of perception. Basically, with Taylor you are looking at a quality product no matter how much you pay for it. Hope that helps somewhat.
