iv been a fan of dave's guitar playing for years now. i think that he is so inventive and under-rated as a guitar player.

why is it that he never busts out with some kind of guitar solo. i know thats not his style or whatever but i know for a fact, if he wanted to, he could solo and it would prob be awesome. anyone have any examples of him soloing? anybody agree or disagree?

He did a little bit of soloing during Jimi Thing but i don't like him soloing. He's a strumming master and im happy with that.

two points to make: 1) if he did it wouldnt be very good 2) if they wanted that sound they'd find a way to get Tim to guest, at least a little bit

What the hell does soloing have anything to do with Dave playing a Strat?

And his Jimi Thing solos (ie Listener Supported) are awesome.

I think his letting his band members take the solo kudos is a huge part of what holds the band together. He is the frontman, but he is not self-indulgent.

Forget about the notion that our emotions can be swept away, kept at bay
Forget about being guilty, we are innocent instead
For soon we will all find our lives swept away

I remember hearing that he isn't that confident with his soloing ability. Everything I've heard him do is pretty cool.

I think that part of the reason that Dave is so good, is that he plays to his strengths. I bet we'd all agree that he is basically the strumming and muting master. Most, if not all, if his songs reflect that. If he started soloing, sure he would be good, but he wouldn't stand out, and plus he would start to sound generic.

he can't do it, he doesn't like doing it - let him be the good rhythm guitarist he is

i think this is the most important point as to why he doesn't solo. I think he is definately capable i mean he has been playing guitar for years I think his hands would be quick enough... And in no way would he be uninventive or anything like that. He probably knows how to solo like with scales and all that stuff but i think the big thing is like davy said he is unselfish. He always has been ever since he first started playing with timmy.

Besides, Dave still gets the most attention because of the "guitar player" and american culture's fascination and glorification of that role in a band. Also because he sings (primarily) he also gets a lot of attention from the audience. And the band is named after him. So, he doesn't really need to solo anyway :P
