Dave's Chet question...
Hey,
Does anyone know what kind, and gauge strings dave used when he played his chet atkins? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

there's a bunch of threads about it here. I cant remember the exact reason, but it was pretty much a sound issue. the taylors just sound better for whqt he wants with the band.flandaneran wrote:why did dave stop using the chet. i think his sound was the hottest when he used gibson.
id love to see him break it out for a couple older songs though, encore WWYS would make me giddy like a school girl.

Agreed, I'd love to see Two Step again on the Chet.czech wrote:there's a bunch of threads about it here. His sound on SMTS/LiC and Recently/L@RR with the chet gets me every time. I prefer his DM3MD overall, but there are some songs that are only done justice with the chet.

hell ya, i didn't think anyone would agree. the old days his guitar seemed louder and more crisp. also, it just added to his style. He looked so goofy and cool playing on that thing.
It seems like a few of the newer recordings of songs the guitar is kinda turned down. Like, i dunno, crush. dont get me wrong, i love crush, but i just wish the guitar were a little louder. Anyone know what im talking about?

That was a result of the lillywhite fallacy. Lillywhite would always turn dave's guitar down and tim's up. He could get away with that because tim and dave doubled their parts. I think the reason why people like the LWS is because it involves lillywhite production. but for the first time, dave's guitar is fully audible.
